Waikiki Inspiration

I was watching YouTube and came across Petrilude's Waikiki at Sunset tutorial and it is amazing. He is so talented and I cant help but watch.   I love the colors and the transformation in this video (Link to video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F17gYdvt8I)  This was so gorgeous I had to give it a try.  This is my interpretation of the look.

I used UDPP as my primer, MAC Painterly Paintpot as a base (closest I had to white).  All of the colors on my lid and lash line were from the Coastal Scents 88 Matte Palette.  On the water line and tight line I used Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide On pencil in Zero.  I used Maybelline Lash Stiletto to create the flick.  For mascara I initially applied L'Oreal Telescopic in Carbon Black and then applied a few coats of Cover Girl's Lash Blast (Orange Tube).

The brushes I used were nothing fancy.  I used a Studio Tools Flat Shader brush (Target) to pack on color and the Divine Large Eyeshadow Brush (black handle - Coastal Scents).  This was a fun look to do to occupy some time on Saturday evening :)

Review: MAC Brulee, Satin Taupe, Sketch and Ricepaper Eye Shadows

$14.50 USD each

I'm pretty new to MAC products and I was a little skeptical about buying Sketch eyeshadow.  My first MAC purchase was Satin Taupe and Brulee eye shadows.  Many people love Satin Taupe and say its MAC's best eyeshadow.  I have to strongly disagree with this.  I bought Satin Taupe and don't care for it at all.  I have tried wearing it many different ways and just cant get it to work for me.  I used Urban Decay Primer Potion and MAC Painterly paintpot as a primer ( I have very oily eyelids) and Satin Taupe always creases on me.   This isn't a bash on Satin Taupe but due to my experience with it I was a little hesitant to buy another MAC eyeshadow.

I have wanted Sketch since I first saw it but just never got around to buying it.  Well I finally did and I don't know why I waited so long.  I love it!! It isnt to bright and has just the right amount of depth.  It can be worn to look more neutral and it can also be dramatic.  It creases on me as well but I love the color so I will deal with it. It has great texture and isn't hard to blend.

I purchased Ricepaper out of impulse.  I never had a huge desire to buy Ricepaper but after swatching it at the MAC counter I couldn't resist.  It has a great texture and is a great addition.  I like to pair it with Sketch but it can be used for a more retro pinup look as well to give your eyes a little shimmer shimmer.

These two purchases have renewed my faith in MAC eye shadows. YAY!

Review: Tarte Jewelery Box

$52.00 USD

The jewelery box palette contains 32 FULL SIZED eye shadows, 8 lip glosses, a mineral bronzer, a shimmering powder and five long wearing eyeliners.  It also comes with a detachable gold necklace.

The top section consists of 16 shimmer eye shadows and the middle section contains 16 matte eye shadows. The pigmentation of these eye shadows is okay but I wasn't impressed.  There isn't an eye shadow in this palette that I would call truly unique but if you don't have a large makeup collection it would be a wonderful addition.

The third section contains a full size bronzer in Park Avenue Princess and a new shimmering powder/highlighter.  The bronzer has wonderful pigmentation.  I'm usually not a fan of bronzers that contain shimmer but I do like the color of this bronzer.  I wouldn't use the bronzer to contour since it does contain shimmer it would draw light to areas you are trying to create depth.  I like to use it on my cheeks before I apply my blush to give me a little extra color.  The highlighting powder adds a nice touch but isn't a holy grail product for me.

The third section also contains eight lip glosses with a variety of red, pink and neutral shades.  There is a mix of shimmer and matte shades.  The pigmentation is good for a gloss product.  If you desire more color pay off the gloss is very build-able.  The glosses don't have a sticky consistency and aren't overly slippery.  They are very smooth. The only complaint I have is you can't re apply your lip color if you are going out unless you were to take the palette and a lip brush with you.  (Please excuse the bronzing powder on the lip glosses)

The drawer of the third section contains five "long wearing eye liners".  The eyeliner color variety is nice but I don't agree with the long wearing label. They have the staying power of an average eye liner.  The consistency is a little dry for maybe lining your upper lash line but is not horrible for your bottom lash line.  If it is applied on the water line you have to build up the product to get color pay off.  I wouldn't recommend using these eyeliners as a base over your entire lid due to the texture.

Overall it is a good palette but not quite all it is cracked up to be in my opinion.  I like the bronzer, highlighter and lipsticks but could live without the eye shadows (majority of the palette) and eyeliner.  I was really excited  when I purchased this but it fell a little flat. I think this would be a good gift for someone maybe just starting in makeup or that doesn't have a large collection.
